Gandhi’s Major Events

Gandhi’s Major Events

One of the key turning points in Gandhi’s life was his time in South Africa (1893-1914), where he first experienced racial discrimination. This led him to develop the concept of Satyagraha, or nonviolent resistance, which he later applied to India’s independence movement.

In India, he led several major campaigns, including the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920), the Salt March (1930), and the Quit India Movement (1942). Each of these events mobilized millions of Indians in peaceful protests against British rule, demonstrating the power of nonviolent resistance.

His efforts ultimately led to India's independence in 1947, but he was assassinated in 1948 by a radical who opposed his vision of religious unity. Despite his tragic death, his teachings inspired global civil rights movements, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s fight for racial equality in the U.S.
